Today, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Mr Radomir Ilić received Indonesia’s Minister of Justice and Human Rights Mr Yasonna Laoly for a planned discussion about the present and future cooperation between Serbia and Indonesia. The two state officials concurred that although successful, the existing cooperation could be improved, particularly in the field of international legal assistance. To that end, they noted that negotiations pertaining to the conclusion of agreements on international legal assistance would soon commence, since the draft agreements had already been shared between the respective justice ministries.

Serbia’s State Secretary and Indonesia’s Justice Minister also discussed fight against corruption and organised crime. Minister Laoly said that a global cooperation was necessary if fight against corruption and organised crime was to be efficient – a matter to which, he said, Indonesia was very committed. In light of this, Serbia’s State Secretary emphasised that Serbia had strengthened its institutional and legal anti-corruption framework and that a series of laws had been developed which demonstrated the core commitment to fight against corruption of Serbia and its President Aleksandar Vučić.

Serbia’s State Secretary expressed gratitude to Indonesia for its principled position not to recognise the self-declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija, noting that such a stance strengthened the friendly bond between Serbia and Indonesia.

Serbia’s State Secretary and Indonesia’s Justice Minister concluded the meeting by identifying other areas of large potential for cooperation between the two countries, especially that of economy, and by agreeing on future joint activities of the two Ministries of Justice.
