Concerning the protests held in front of the Misdemeanour Court in Belgrade, the Ministry of Justice notes that all citizens are equal before the law and that all who have been proven by the competent bodies to have acted illegally, committed violence on the streets and jeopardised the safety of citizens must bear the consequences in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Serbia.

The Ministry of Justice calls upon all citizens gathered in protest to refrain from commenting on court decisions and making inappropriate calls for the dismissal of holders of judicial office, which are unfounded and threaten to undermine the integrity of those holding office and the entire judiciary.

The Ministry of Justice appeals to all representatives of the gathered civil society organisations not to use or abuse political disagreements to degrade the judiciary in the Republic of Serbia when all the judges are doing is apply the law equally to everyone.

Courts of law should be enabled to conduct their work and adjudicate exclusively on the basis of proof, without disruptions or pressure.

Violence and hooliganism must not be tolerated, and institutions of this country must not allow any type of violence and they must act in the interest of citizens by protecting their rights.
