For the purpose of strengthening the security system, this year the Administration for the Enforcement of Penal Sanctions will offer permanent contracts to 225 employees in penal correctional institutions (PCIs), and mostly in the Security Services Department where 81 new commanding officers will be reporting to duty on 19 June.

This reinforcement will be spread over six institutions: 24 new commanding officers will be working in the PCI in Sremska Mitrovica − the largest in the country −, 25 in the Belgrade District Prison – the largest detention unit –, 18 in the PCI in Belgrade, 6 in the PCI in Šabac, 5 in the Special Prison Hospital in Belgrade, and 3 in the Kraljevo District Prison.

Recruitment of existing 109 employees in 17 institutions against permanent posts is currently underway. The majority of these is for the Security Services Department (45), whereas the rest involves the Department of General Services (22), the Department of Treatment and Alternative Sentencing (16), the Department of Training and Development (13), and the Department of Health-Care Services (13). This is in addition to the 35 permanent hires which the Administration conducted for these very departments earlier this year.

Presently, the Government is reviewing requests for approval to advertise 31 vacancies, based on the requirements of 7 institutions: the PCI in Sremska Mitrovica, the PCI in Ćuprija, the Belgrade District Prison, the Zaječar District Prison, the Kruševac District Prison, the Čačak District Prison, and the Special Prison Hospital in Belgrade. The Administration will continue to recruit new employees in order to increase the capacity of the entire system of enforcement of penal sanctions.

During the 2017−2018 period, 273 commanding officers were hired to work in the Security Services Department. Out of those, 120 entered into a permanent employment contract with the PCI in Pančevo which opened on 1 October 2018.
