Today, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia received notice of the positive decision of the Hungarian authorities on Serbia’s request for the extradition of Ljubiša Manitašević to Serbia and transfer to the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor in Belgrade.
The Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor in Belgrade is conducting an investigation against Ljubiša Manitašević on reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offence of murder and wounding of enemy combatants on the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija during the 1990s.
Although the so-called and self-declared Republic of Kosovo* had also submitted an extradition request, the competent court in Hungary found the legal presumption to stand for Ljubiša Manitašević to be transferred to Belgrade and Priština.
Guided exclusively by international law and justice, Hungary’s Minister of Justice made the final decision to have Ljubiša Manitašević transferred to Belgrade.
Serbia commends the decision taken by the Hungarian authorities, and notes that Serbia’s judicial organs have undoubtedly shown that they are prepared to prosecute all persons equally, irrespective of their national or ethnic background.
