Four hundred (400) convicts in the penal correctional institute (PCI) in Pančevo have foregone one warm meal and two ready-to-eat meal rations (the so-called ‘dry meal’) in favour of the city’s Gerontology Centre users. To that end, the PCI in Pančevo has made a donation of 190,000 dinars to the Gerontology Centre.

Previously, 4,280 convicts in the largest PCIs in the country (Sremska Mitrovica, Niš, Zabela, and Novi Sad) had forgone one meal in favour of the population’s most disadvantaged groups economically as a sign of support in the extraordinary circumstances created by the risk of the COVID-19 spread. The idea of forgoing the ‘dry meal’, which they get on Sundays for dinner, had come from the convicts themselves as that was their way of assisting the poorest citizens.
