A group of independently gathered volunteers from Užice called ‘Užice Visors’ has donated 100 protection visors to the Penal Sanctions Enforcement Administration for the needs of its employees working in the departments of alternative sanctions enforcement in Serbia.
For the purpose of preventing the spread of COVID-19, the said department employees will wear the visors when in direct contact with convicted or detained persons placed under an alternative measure, such as a home confinement or home detention with or without electronic monitoring (ankle monitor). In this way, the Penal Sanctions Enforcement Administration wishes to ensure further protection of its employees as well as convicted and detained persons who remain subject to a continuous measure enforcement control even if they are currently outside of the penal correctional institutions.
For weeks now, and with the support of local businesses, more than 20 volunteers from the ‘Užice Visors’ group have been manufacturing protection visors for health workers and institutions in the Zlatibor District. So far, they have donated over 3,200 visors to hospitals and primary health-care centres in Užice and the surrounding area.
Presently, 2,333 persons in Serbia are under an alternative sanction. Out of those, 245 are in a home confinement with electronic monitoring.
