‘At present, 75 persons are being held in detention for violating the self-isolation measure’, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice Radomir Ilić said today.
The Penal Sanctions Enforcement Administration of the Ministry of Justice has designated three special facilities under its management for receiving those found in violation of the self-isolation measure. These facilities, located in Vršac, Požarevac and Pirot, are currently holding 43, 15 and 17 offenders, respectively.
State Secretary Ilić pointed out that charging documents had already been filed against a majority of detained persons, and that their trials would begin in a few days. In consultation with the Health Ministry, the Justice Ministry has developed a plan for organising such trials to minimise health risks. ‘We have received today special equipment, liquid disinfectants, gloves and masks to be distributed to the courts conducting trials of persons who have violated the self-isolation measure and who may be infected with COVID-19’, he explained.
The State Secretary called upon those on whom the self-isolation measure had been imposed to comply with it since acting to the contrary would jeopardise their family members’ and other citizens’ health.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice made recommendations to judicial authorities for dealing with cases of self-isolation measure violations whereby the criminal offences of failure to comply with health regulations during an epidemic and transmission of a communicable disease during the state of emergency are committed.
