For the next fourteen days, all visits to convicts serving their sentence in Serbia’s penal correctional institutions and district prisons are prohibited in order to prevent the possibility of the COVID-19 epidemic, in accordance with the recommendations of the Public Health Institute of Serbia Dr Milan Jovanović Batut and the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Clinic of the Clinical Centre of Serbia. Convicts will be allowed to use telephone booths as much as practicable.
Attorneys will be allowed to pay a 30-minute visit to their clients in custody to prepare their defence only if they have trials scheduled to take place within the next seven days in connection with cases involving detention. Attorneys’ visits to detainees will be arranged with all protection measures in place, including the separation of interlocutors by means of a glass or other transparent barrier and the mandatory use of face masks and gloves.
In direct communication with the panel judges and with their approval, the heads of penal correctional institutions will ensure that detainees can also make telephone calls to the extent possible and reasonable.
