Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović received the Justice Minister of Belarus Oleg Slizhevsky who was on an official visit to Serbia as part of the Belarus Delegation headed by President Alexander Lukashenko.
The two Justice Ministers noted that Serbia and Belarus enjoyed friendly relations, and that a good and close cooperation between their Ministries of Justice was maintained. They concurred that although Serbia and Belarus had signed a Legal Assistance in Civil and Criminal Matters Agreement in 2013, new agreements were required. Specifically, the ministers said that the cooperation between the two ministries needed strengthening in the upcoming period by way of a Memorandum of Cooperation which would improve their direct communication.
Minister Slizhevsky explained that Belarus was undergoing a comprehensive judicial reform which, inter alia, focused on the efficient enforcement of court decisions, the reduction of the courts backlog, and the promotion of mediation. To that end, he said that Serbia’s experience in mediation would be of great importance, especially given that Serbia was one of the signatories to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements resulting from Mediation, the so-called Singapore Convention on Mediation.
Minister Kuburović stressed the excellent cooperation between the two countries’ notary chambers, congratulating her counterpart on Belarus being admitted to the International Union of Notaries days before.
