The Ministry of Justice, with the support from the EU for Justice – Support for Chapter 23 Project, has organised a one-day workshop on the applicable and future mechanisms for the monitoring of the implementation of justice sector strategic documents.

Assistant Justice Minister for European Integration and International Projects Mr. Čedomir Backović explained that the aim of the workshop was the professional development of the Ministry staff because the process of monitoring the implementation of two pending strategic documents – the new National Judicial Reform Strategy 2019−2024 pending adoption and the Chapter 23 Action Plan currently being revised − would require their greater involvement.

At present, the existing framework for monitoring and assessing the results of the justice sector is being analysed under the EU for Justice – Support for Chapter 23 Project, which provides for the expertise and the sharing of practical knowledge in all aspects of the judicial reform (legal, strategic, institutional and capacity building), and the monitoring of Chapter 23 Action Plan coordination and implementation.

With the Chapter 23 Action Plan under revision and the new Strategy 2019−2024 being finalised, it has been determined that further development of the monitoring mechanism needed to be based on a prior understanding and an assessment of the Ministry staff’s knowledge and capabilities of providing expert support in implementing the said documents, including recommendations on how to advance the implementation mechanism and how to improve the capabilities of the staff.
