The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the EU for Justice – Support for Chapter 23 Project, has organised a two-day staff training in the European human rights standards, which was to help further educate the staff on the United Nations (UN) human rights mechanisms and trends.

The aim of the training was to advance the civil servants’ knowledge and skills pertaining to the standards of reporting on human rights in the Republic of Serbia under Chapter 23, in light of the existing obligations stemming from the relevant international agreements and the Chapter 23 conditions to the European Union (EU) accession. The training participants were taught about human rights development and their importance in Serbia’s efforts to meeting its commitments towards the EU, the UN and the Council of Europe, by public international law and human rights law experts, namely dr Lucia Mokrá from Slovakia and dr Vesna Ćorić of the Institute of Comparative Law in Serbia.

The training was the first of the two planned by the Ministry of Justice in response to the demands of the EU accession process as outlined in Chapter 23 and those stemming from other related human rights reporting and monitoring mechanisms. The training sessions fall under the Programme for Capacity Building for Human Rights Reporting and Monitoring.
