Assistant Justice Minister in charge of judicial matters, Ms Jelena Deretić attended the Fourth Annual Public Notaries Council meeting held on 14−15 December 2019, in Kopaonik. There, she presented the new options available through the ProNep application which public notaries use daily. She spoke about the concrete positive results of the application which the Ministry of Justice run and maintained, including the changes to the legal framework governing property taxation.
Ms Deretić and other representatives of the Ministry of Justice explained how those changes ought to be interpreted vis-à-vis the calculation of work compensation and reimbursement of expenses, and demonstrated how best to use the application to help eliminate any doubts the notaries may have had and to ensure all notaries conducted their affairs in the same fashion.
There was also some discussion about the Personal Data Protection Act and how it compared to other country’s laws and practices, including the role of public notaries in tax procedures and the issuance and the use of electronic documents. Other topics of conversation included the challenges of harmonising legislation regulating civil law matters, with a special focus on the consolidation of court and notarial practices.
The meeting participants also discussed the Public Notaries Chamber’s earlier activities to do with the professional training of public notaries and international cooperation. The meeting concluded with the expression of a joint intention to continue improving the work of notaries and advancing the profession altogether.
