What is corruption, how to recognise it, to whom to report it, and how to prevent this adverse social phenomenon – these were the topics discussed during the Anti-Corruption Lesson attended by more than 200 final-year secondary school students from the Obrenovac city municipality and other parts of Belgrade and by prosecutors, police officers and judges fighting corruption on a daily basis.

The event was held at the Agricultural Science and Chemistry School in Obrenovac on 17 December 2019. The secondary school students engaged in discussion about combating corruption with representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency and of Transparency Serbia non-governmental organisation.

Introductory statements were made by Dragoljub Zlatanović, Head Teacher of the Agricultural Science and Chemistry School, Mirjana Vlahović of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Darko Luković, Head of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Ministry of the Interior, and Roman Prah, Prevention and Fight against Corruption project Team Leader.

This fourth Lesson was organised under the above-mentioned EU-funded project implemented in cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Justice and the National Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of a campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of corruption prevention and fight against corruption.

The campaign’s aim is to improve the public understanding of the corruption issue and of the systems and mechanisms for combating and preventing corruption, the special focus being on youth education and information.

In addition to Obrenovac, anti-corruption lessons have been held in Kraljevo, Novi Sad and Niš, attended by approximately 1,000 secondary school students.
