Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović met with Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) Serge Brammertz to discuss the new biannual report of the IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor. In their discussion, Minister Kuburović and Prosecutor Brammertz concurred that Serbia had a good cooperation with IRMCT.
Prosecutor Brammertz welcomed the increase in the number of deputy public prosecutors in the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office and confirmed that the IRMCT would continue to provide support for the training of the said Prosecutor’s Office staff aimed at improving their knowledge and skills needed to handle war crimes cases. However, he stressed the need for a further strengthening of regional cooperation in war crimes prosecution.
The new biannual report of the IRMCT will be presented to the United Nations Security Council in New York in December 2019.
