Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović received the Delegation of the Council of Europe, led by the Head of the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights Fredrik Sundberg, to discuss the procedure for the adoption of the Establishing the Facts about the Status of New-borns Suspected to Have Gone Missing from Hospital Maternity Wards in the Republic of Serbia Bill (the so-called Missing Babies Bill).

Minister Kuburović said that the day before the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia had accepted in principle the Bill which had been initiated by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as a pre-condition for the proposed Bill to be on the National Assembly’s agenda. The Justice Minister explained that the National Assembly would hold a public hearing on the Bill where all interested parties, including the parents of the reported missing babies, would be able to state their opinions.

Mr Sundberg found it encouraging that the competent committee had adopted the Bill in principle, adding that the Council of Europe was prepared to provide all the necessary support for the Bill to be adopted and implemented as soon as possible.
