Justice Minister Nela Kuburović met today with Argentina’s Justice Minister Germán Garavano to sign three treaties in the area of international legal cooperation between the two countries.

Kuburović and Garavano signed agreements on the transfer of convicted persons and cooperation in the enforcement of penal sanctions, on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, and on extradition.

Kuburović and Garavano concurred that the signed agreements would create conditions for a stronger, more binding and more effective cooperation in the fight against all forms of crime, notably transnational organised crime, and allow for more efficient prosecution of perpetrators of crimes.

Minister Kuburović pointed out that the signing of treaties in the field of justice with Argentina had been long awaited and that Serbia was the first country in the region to have concluded such agreements with Argentina.

She also expressed her hope that an agreement on cooperation in civil matters would be signed soon to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Garavano explained that the signing of the treaties was the first step towards further strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice, and that Argentina was interested in deepening cooperation in this area by entering into new treaties.

The Justice Minister confirmed that there were not any contentious or unresolved issues between Serbia and Argentina, and thanked this country for its strong stance on Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and for voicing such stance in international organisations.
