Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović received Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi to discuss thus far and future cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the EU Delegation to Serbia.

In the meeting, Minister Kuburović said that the Ministry of Justice had completed the final draft of the National Strategy for Advancing the Judiciary 2019−2024 in line with the next step of Serbia’s process of joining the EU and the strengthening of a legal state, access to justice and legal certainty, and of establishing a strong and an efficient system of protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms.

Minister Kuburović reiterated that the final draft – which had incorporated the comments received during the public debate − was available on the Ministry’s website. She explained that the first draft had been presented at the end of January 2019 when the consultations began, and all interested parties could submit their comments and share their views on the text. She added that she was pleased that the final draft had been agreed by all the drafting working group members, and that the entire drafting process had been transparent and inclusive.

Minister Kuburović and Ambassador Fabrizi also discussed the revised Chapter 23 Action Plan, the final version of which had been submitted to the EU institutions for an opinion. Minister Kuburović said she expected the first comments on the document to arrive from Brussels soon because the public debate needed to be opened about such an important document for Serbia’s legal system, too.

Afterwards, Minister Kuburović and Ambassador Fabrizi discussed the statutes which would soon enter into force, bylaws, and the Ministry’s future activities in fighting corruption. On that note, Minister Kuburović thanked Ambassador Fabrizi for the EU Delegation’s support to the Ministry of Justice.
