Justice Minister Nela Kuburović and Bundestag’s delegate Armin-Paulus Hampel have discussed international legal cooperation in extradition and transfer of convicted persons between Serbia and Germany, as well as Germany’s support to Serbia’s judiciary through various international projects aimed at strengthening judicial capacity in Serbia.
Minister Kuburović stressed that Germany was providing great support to Serbia in strengthening the rule of law, particularly through its International Cooperation Agency’s (GIZ) projects. She explained that the support proved very important public notaries were being introduced to Serbia’s legal system in 2014 when Serbia modelled Germany’s notary to a large extent. She added that the reform of the administrative judiciary – which was also supported by Germany – was underway.
The Justice Minister and Mr Hampel then discussed potential transfers of Serbian citizens serving prison sentences in Germany to Serbia. Minister Kuburović noted that Serbia and Germany were exchanging convicted persons or extraditing detainees on the basis of bilateral agreements.
Mr Hampel said that the political option to which he belonged had a great interest in the Balkans, especially Serbia. Discussing the current developments in the European Union (EU), he stressed that he was advocating for a reformed EU, and that he saw Serbia being a part of it.
