Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović received Great Britain’s departing Ambassador to Serbia Denis Keefe who was paying a farewell visit. The Ambassador noted that Great Britain would continue to support Serbia in advancing the judiciary and promoting the rule of law.

Minister Kuburović and Ambassador Keefe concurred that the cooperation between Serbia and Great Britain up to that point had been excellent, and that Great Britain had given Serbia great support in implementing judicial reforms and promoting the rule of law through various projects, such as the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Justice Sector Support in Serbia (MDTF–JSS), and the British Council projects. Ambassador Keefe added that Great Britain had once more allocated significant resources to Serbia through the new Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF), the objective of which was also to strengthen Serbia’s justice sector capacity.

Discussing Serbia’s further important steps towards EU-integration, Kuburović stated that the National Assembly Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues was going into session that day to discuss the Government’s initiative to amend the provisions of the Constitution concerning the justice sector. She explained that, if the Committee was to agree to pass the initiative to the deputies, the deputies would have to reach a two-thirds majority vote on opening a public debate.

Minister Kuburović and Ambassador Keefe exchanged words of gratitude for a successful collaboration and the other’s personal contribution to advancing the cooperation between the two countries, and wished one another great success in future endeavours.
