The National Convention on the EU (NCEU) Working Group convened today to discuss the first draft of the revised Chapter 23 Action Plan concerning the section on fundamental rights.

On that occasion, Assistant Justice Minister Čedomir Backović reflected on the position of the Ministry of Justice that civil society should certainly have an impact on the text of the Action Plan.

“Any comments or remarks are welcome and will be considered. Once final documents are drawn up, tables of civil society’s proposals will also be made, which will include responses to those remarks by the Ministry of Justice and other institutions and authorities concerned,” Backović said.

He mentioned exemplary cooperation between civil society and the Ministry of Justice regarding free legal aid, in which case civil society representatives made an outstanding contribution to the development of the draft Act.

Backović pointed out that this Act would not be possible to implement properly without NGOs.

The Coordinator of the Chapter 23 NCEU Working Group Milan Antonijević and the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković also spoke at the session.
