The Ministry of Justice published on its website the Draft Act Amending the Criminal Code aimed at revising sanctions for the most serious crimes.

Proposed amendments include the introduction of life imprisonment in the criminal justice system of Serbia for the most serious crimes – aggravated murder, rape resulting in death, sexual intercourse with a child or helpless person or sexual intercourse by abuse of position resulting in death; etc. Draft amendments also envisage new measures against multiple recidivists.

In addition to representatives of the Justice, Interior and Health Ministries, the Working Group tasked with drafting the text of the Criminal Code amendments also included judges, prosecutors, lawyers, representatives of relevant institutions and crime research institutes, as well as representatives of professional associations and non-governmental organisations.
