The Ministry of Justice condemns most harshly the assault on Deputy Public Prosecutor in
Smederevo Aleksandar Kuzmanović which occurred last evening in Smederevska Palanka,
and it calls on all the competent state authorities to urgently investigate the matter and
prosecute the perpetrator of this crime in the most efficient way possible.
The Ministry stresses that assaults on persons holding judicial offices are also assaults on the
state and the rule of law. Public prosecutors, who daily fight for rights and justice by
prosecuting perpetrators of crimes on behalf of the state, are the protectors of citizens and of
the legal order from all forms of criminality. Therefore, any kind of attack against or pressure
on them must be condemned and sanctioned in accordance with the law.
