Today, Justice Minister Nela Kuburović visited the Ivo Andrić elementary school in Belgrade which had received “opportunity funds“ from the Ministry Awards Committee, meant for new joinery, i.e. (de-)installation of standard and non-standard size windows and doors (entrance and hall), which has increased the school’s energy efficiency and safety standards.

The Awards Committee which had initiated the public call and assessed all the submitted project proposals recognised the importance of the school’s Project ‘Let’s save energy for our children and our planet!’ and awarded the school 4,321,800 Serbian dinars. ‘The example of the Ivo Andrić elementary school’s dedication and commitment to improving the conditions in which pupils studied may serve all educational institutions’, Minister Kuburović stated and added that improved school conditions stimulated both the teachers’ and the pupils’ performance improvement.

This year’s Public Call for the Allocation of Opportunity Funds - unexpended prosecution budget due to non-opportune cases – was announced by the Ministry of Justice in February. The total amount of available funds was 445 million dinars which had been awarded to 130 different beneficiaries, the Ivo Andrić elementary school in Belgrade having been one of them. Out of those 130 projects, 65 concerned the field of education: 57 schools and 8 pre-schools have received over 100 million dinars to be used for acquiring computers, screen projectors, multimedia room equipment, classroom furniture and materials, video surveillance equipment, renovation and refurbishment works (painting, sanitary knot repair, joinery replacement, main staircase repair…).

To date, the Ministry of Justice has conducted three Public Calls for the Allocation of Opportunity Funds for the purpose of selecting projects of public interest. Through all three Public Calls, over 1,148,000,000 million dinars have been allocated to such projects, the implementation of which has resulted in an increase in healthcare resources across Serbia, a strengthened educational system infrastructure, an additional support to social welfare institutions and an increased cultural potential of our country.
