Minister of Justice Nela Kuburović met in Berlin with Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany Katarina Barley to discuss about support that Germany has been providing to Serbia on its path to European integration, as well as about the future cooperation of the two countries in the field of judiciary.

Minister Barley pointed out that Serbia has made significant progress in the rule of law and has made important steps on the path of European integration, and that Germany is ready to continue to support Serbia, especially in the fight against corruption.

Ministers of Justice of the Republic of Serbia and Germany agreed that  cooperation between the judicial authorities of the two countries is inevitable, especially when it comes to the fight against corruption and organised crime, through the work of joint investigation teams.

Minister Kuburović emphasised that Serbia is continuously working on strengthening and preventing and repressing corruption and organised crime, and that new laws - on the fight against corruption and lobbying, to be found in the parliamentary procedure during the autumn, are just one of the measures which represent capacity building in the fight against corruption. She reminded that with the adoption of these laws, Serbia fulfils its obligations under the Action Plan for Chapter 23.

During the meeting, Minister Kuburović pointed out that Germany also provides significant support to the Ministry of Justice through projects and she particularly emphasised excellent cooperation which the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia has with the German Organisation for International Cooperation - GIZ. She reminded that Serbia had had strong support from GIZ during the introduction of the public procurement system, but also in the strengthening of the executive profession in Serbia.

Minister Kuburović expressed her satisfaction with the ongoing implementation of three new projects supported by Germany aimed at improving administrative judiciary, strengthening the prison system and fighting corruption.

At the end of the meeting, Ministers of Justice of the Republic of Serbia and Germany agreed that the relations of the two countries are at an exceptional level and emphasised that cooperation between these two countries, especially in the judiciary, will be even better.
