Today, the Basic and the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Offices in Sombor received a new building which was refurbished for the functioning of these judicial organs. The refurbished facility once belonged to the "21. оktobar" [21st October] Primary School in the Njegoseva Street.

Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic visited the new headquarters of the Sombor prosecutor’s offices and on the occasion stated that those prosecutor’s offices were some of the rare ones with their own building, i.e. not sharing the building with the courts. She added that the once school facility of around 1,600 square meters had been adapted to meet the prosecution offices’ requirements in under 10 months and that approximately 92 million dinars had been invested in the renovation.

"On behalf of the Ministry, I would like to express my satisfaction with having been able to visit this facility at the end of a year in which we have dedicated great efforts to the improvement of infrastructural capacities for the courts and the public prosecutor’s offices, and to witness the public prosecutors and deputy prosecutors of the Higher and the Basic Prosecutor’s Offices having such good working conditions. We hope that starting from next year, this will be reflected in the performance results", the Justice Minister said. She added that the following year the Ministry of Justice would continue to improve the infrastructural capacities of both the courts and the prosecutor’s offices.

The prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Sombor Zoran Divjak thanked the Serbian Government, the Ministry of Justice and the City of Sombor for enabling the prosecutor’s offices to get their own facility and funding for the renovation. "We have thus far been tenants. But, now, we have a refurbished building specifically meeting our requirements - such as investigations - which will certainly increase our work efficiency", Divjak stated.

The Madame Mayor of Sombor Dusanka Golubovic said that the new building for the prosecutor’s offices was a lovely example of an excellent cooperation between the republic-level and the local-level institutions. "This was a case of good will from all sides to give both the basic and the higher prosecutor’s office a building. Thanks to the Ministry of Justice, today we have a beautiful, furnished building with a lovely façade and good working conditions for the prosecutors", Golubovic stated.

The refurbished building has a basement, a ground floor and a first floor. In addition to the necessary office space, there is a separate entrance and a waiting room for people deprived of liberty, an electronic system of security check at the entrance, an adequate access and signs for people with disabilities. The courtyard area with auxiliary facilities is suitable for bringing-in the accused and could potentially be expanded in the future to meet new requirements.

The total value of the completed works is 92,654,000 dinars. The furniture and IT equipment have thus far cost around 2.7 million dinars. An investment of approximately 5 million dinars is planned for next year.
