On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, the Ministry of Justice says that the day should be when  the results and the progress achieved in the fight against corruption are presented, as well as the day we all remember that the commitment to this shared goal should be consistent, continuous and with concrete results.

The fight against corruption and organised crime is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Justice and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as evidenced by the proposed set of anti-corruption legislation, drafted by the Ministry and recently adopted by the National Assembly. The adoption of the new legislation has opened a new chapter in the fight against organised crime and corruption.

A public hearing about the new the Anti-corruption Agency Bill is under way, aiming to expand the responsibilities and improve the work of this very important and significant institution. Furthermore, the drafting of the Origin of Property Act is already in its final stage.

The Ministry of Justice wants to remind that this year marks the first year of the application of the Whistle-blowers Protection Act, the adoption of which has aligned Serbia in the circle of a few European countries with such a legal solution, i.e. the protection of brave individuals who report any kind of retaliation or negligent and unlawful conduct.

In addition to the strong political will, independent regulatory bodies and institutions, as well as the civil society, have had an extremely important role in the efficient, consistent and strict fight against corruption. Without their work and participation, it would not have been possible to achieve visible and good results.

Only cooperation and joint anti-corruption activities by all society actors - state institutions, independent bodies, civil society, citizens - can help achieve the goal of establishing zero tolerance for corruption.
